Durham Business School is in the same league of Warwick,Cranfield,Lancaster in UK.Its rankings are continuously increasing in UK as well as in Europe.

@Gautam - If I'm not mistaken I've seen your posts in paagalguy...and you are a 2009 cohort of Durham.

I think most of yours queries has been addressed in the previous post of one of my colleague Brijesh Bava or Birju.As far i,m concern there three positive side of Durham Reputation in UK & Europe,Value for Money(Ranked in 10 B-school recent FT ranking2010),Career Progress rank(FT2010).The another most imp thing is that its career services are very active however it dont provide campus placement like Indian top B-school(But none of school provide this in UK except few) as well as they give importance to International students.One year MBA is not for those people who are looking for 180 degree shift in their career rather it is meant for those who want to upgrade them-self in the same domain after exp of on an average of 6-7 years.

I ve got successfull in contacting the current student from 2009-10 batch. Here is what he has written to my query about the placements and current batch:

Congratulations on receiving the offer for the Durham MBA. As you are aware I am pursuing the full time MBA program and no student has left the program in the middle of the semester. Two students decided to defer it to next year within the first week of the induction program and the rest of us are really enjoining the learning experience.
Regarding the placements none of the UK universities guarantee placements for the MBA program. At Durham Business School (DBS) we have the careers department which has a placement officer and they also regularly conduct workshops. We had a 1 day workshop yesterday on interview techniques and case study interview techniques. The last batch which graduated only a handful are yet to find a job.
We have a multi cultural cohort, 24 nationalities and there are 35 Indians out of 89 students.

Wow 89 students in a class is too many and Indian students made up almost half of the cohort. The admission office told me they are aiming for a cohort of 55-75 for the upcoming intake. Hopefully the diversity of the class would be more balanced this time round.

OK, i received the email from Ustinov to decide the type of accommodation. It offers single rooms of different types;
(a) En-suite,
(b) paired or
(c) standard (which is the cheapest)

I am opting for the cheapest type which does not have a shower in the room..... Wise choice?

Well...that would be based on your preference. I'd be happy with a room w/o shower and use the money saved elsewhere...It'd be fun lining up in front of the shower room in the morning and banging the doors with the hope of the bathroom singer to stop singing and letting me have my turn ;) Jokes apart...the choice isn't insensible at all.

I just received a mail from DBS Admission about the unsuccessful of my scholarship application. Did anyone else receive the same information as well? In fact, I did not apply for any scholarship such as FD Ellis, so I am not sure what's going on ? Does it mean the Admission has decided the FD Ellis goes to? or the implication of the conceal of early bird discount?

The panel was for DBS scholarships (10-40 percent fee waiver). The F D Ellis is to be decided in June and the early bird is a discount and not a schol.

I have talked to a few and none seems to have received a schol, not even 10%. I wonder who it went to and how many schols were for offer!

With the government cutting funding to the schools nationwide, you might not want to have high hopes for big juicy tuition fee waivers.

Hi All,

I'm now thinking/making up my mind for Durham, as I see all suitable & convincing reasons to choose Durham as the "Best b-school" in the Tier-2 category of UK b-schools, in all the considering parameters like Value for Money, Cost, Accreditations, Reputation, Career Services..etc.

However, its a tough call b/w Durham & Strathclyde, but I'd Zero Durham for all these valid reasons.

Welcome to the expected cohort of DBS 2010-11 batch. Where are you from?
I'm an Indian and come from a healthcare/medical background with >4 yrs of Entrepreneurial experience (Clinic), and I'm looking forward to switch from Healthcare services to Pharma/Healthcare Corporate management, so its going to be a career shift for me and I'm sure that Durham would suffice my needs, however I haven't paid my fees for Durham, but still despite of having multiple admits from good UK/EU schools, I'm quite confident about Durham.

I would be accompanying my wife with me, for my MBA at Durham. I m in contact with many current students and have got a fantastic feedback about the Univ & the course as such.

I have started searching and doing my ground work for the accommodation, as I would be opting for an off-campus acc. So, it would be great if we can form a small group of 3-4 people, then we book our house, which would be awesome & cheap outside the Ustinov college(preferred acc at Univ). These houses are recommended by the Durham Student Union (DBS) and are checked and assured by the DBS. They generally charge aound 700-800 GBP for a month, for a big house, accommodating 4 guys..which comes upto just 200 GBP per month, per person. So, count us 2 (I and my wife) and waiting for others to join, so that we can even look for other better options.

That sounds like a great idea. Nonetheless, I am actually in contact with Ustinov College, just to get a clear picture about options available. I would definitely prefer accommodation including own kitchen. Let's see.

Hi, I have offer from Durham and Bradford. Planned late for MBA so could not prepare for GMAT. Not sure if I should take admisison this year or wait one more year and try for Oxbridge?
I have more than 10 years experience and working in US. So I can continue to work one more year and then go for MBA.
Advice is appreciated.
