Help Needed to Choose an MSc Program

Hi, Completed my Bachelors in Engineering. Interested in Finance and would like to pursue career in Finance. No Experience and No GMAT. Hence interested to Pursue MSc Course related to Finance or Management. Post the course completion, I would like pursue a Job opportunity in the finance domain in UK.

Have the following options for the MSc Program -

1. Uni of Glasgow (MSc Management with International Finance) - (QS Ranking 81)
2. Uni of Bristol (MSc Finance and Investment) - (QS Ranking 61)
3. Uni of Bath (MSc Finance and Banking) (QS: 179)
4. Uni of Birmingham (MSc Financial Management) (QS: 91)
5. Uni of Glasgow (M Fin - International Finance) --> Yet to get offer

Have the following questions -
1. Confused whether I need to give preference to overall university ranking or Subject Ranking - Objective is to get a Job in UK. Need your guidance.

2. Suggest me a course from the above list which has better recognition in Finance areas. I am inclined to Uni of Glasgow (Management with International Finance) or Uni of Bristol (Finance and Investment) just based on overall university ranking with my limited knowledge. Appreciate your guidance..

I think you know the best programmes are the ones in the FT MiF ranking, and you are generally excluding yourself from those by avoiding the GMAT. See: https://find-mba.com/board/gmat/why-you-should-take-the-gmat-33542

Thanks much Duncan. Had gone through the article. Had a look in to FT MiF Rankings. Uni of Bath and Uni of Glasgow (Adam Smith) had their presence in the rankings between 2015 to 2021 continuously. For some reason both of them are missing in 2022 MiF FT rankings.

Made a mistake, I think it is too late to take GMAT for Sep 2022 entry for international students. As I am not working now, not sure whether it is worth the wait for another year. Hence I am inclined to choose one course from the above offers for this year of study...

Bath is the better option. Generally there's a trade-off available: lower salary can get you into the workplace sooner but higher salary means higher quality cohort and more career progression (reflected by the increase in salaries and the careers progress rank). Bath's a more significant business school, I'd say, and salaries are probably higher. Unlike Glasgow, Bath students can secure internships (but not too many).

Lastly, What do you think of Uni of Bristol (MSc Finance and Investment) ? Came to know that Uni of Bristol does not have any business related accreditation because it does not offer an MBA. Does business related accreditation matter if I choose Bristol ? Glasgow has Triple and Bath has double accreditation for their business schools. However, Glasgow and Bristol are part of Russel group. Don't know which parameters (accreditations, group, overall ranking or subject ranking) should get the priority here in choosing a university for my finance course due to lack of exposure.

Membership in the Russell Group isn't really a very notable factor; it's a sign of (a) being over 60 years old and (b) getting a lot of UK government research funding. However, the top institutions under 60 years old like LBS, Bayes, Cranfield, Henley, Lancaster are not in the Group.

There's no connection between international accreditation and having an MBA. Bristol doesn't have international accreditation because it's not competing for the students who are concerned about that.

Honestly, the Bristol programme looks well designed. The faculty members look very research-focussed. However, the Bath MSc is in a major business school (rather than a smaller school of accounting). It's a large and better-funded school with more career resources and a dynamic alumni network. The course design's better (if you have a specific career goal) and the practice track swings the choice for me very clearly in Bath's direction.

PS Bristol would be better for location and finding a wife.

In summary, I got it this way
Bath > Bristol > Glasgow

As I like Scotland as a place, would like to know your thoughts on Uni of Glasgow, Employability wise, and about M Fin in International Finance course in Glasgow ?

I would put Glasgow before Bristol. It's a stronger business school, a FT-ranked MIF and a bigger city.
