Do i understand right, that Manchester is (was) great at exactly those directions, that were mostly hit by the global meltdown and there is no sense to focus much on this school? Please advice.

Manchester appears to be on the decline from an MBA ranking perspective Lancaster has consolidated its position as the leading UK school outside of London, Cambridge and Oxford.

Most subject are taught by Professors and Doctoral level academics.

There is a significant financial focus along with international electives in business & finance- not disimilar to those mentioned in the reply about MBS.

Finance is taught by Prof Bart Lambrecht who is well respected in the Finance World and his services are coveted by other schools including the top three.

Prof VN Balasubramanyam is a world respected economist who teaches the International Business elements.

I would go for Manchester, especially because of the International Project where you work as a consultant for a multinational somewhere in the world in the last semester. The performance and the assessment is part of your entire grade.

That?s a big plus for MBS! Plus Warwick, Cranfield and Lancaster, although being very good schools, they r still located in the suburban areas in comparison to the Cosmopolitan Manchester. At the end of the day?MBA is a practical degree?so I'd rather go for a school located in a cosmopolitan!!

Yep, Manchester seems to have developed a knack for a constant decline in all the rankings. Somehow it shares similar condition with the Uni of Birmingham..Had the B School been in a city other than Manchester, it would be mercilessly crushed by the upcoming good business schools like Lancaster, Aston etc.

But then MBS being a triple accredited business school is not a bad choice either PROVIDED you get admission in a good course since MBS being a smart and old hag in the business of Business Schools have floated numerous useless courses which find absolutely no takers. If one wonders then why is that students (domestic and international) flock and fight to get into MBS...well its the city...Manchester!

Myself applied to MBS and I must confess initially I placed MBS above all business schools...and desperately want to get into the business school...primary reason is the glamor (all regards to the beautiful MBS brochure!) and secondary reason is...I am a big fan of Manchester United Club (ahem!).

Both WBS and Cranfield-SOM are top class Business Schools...and probably the best outside London region...Both the B-Schools are well known for their Marketing courses...But Warwick is renowned to attract the best of Management Consulting job offers whereas Cranfield is big attraction for the head-hunters for the Marketing domain.

Lancaster is a very good B School, but being located at an obscure place people generally write Lancs off, but Lancaster recently opened up an Recruitment Office at London as a place where its current students can come and sit for an interview with an interviewer.

If you are wondering where the heck is Cranfield...Well its just in front of Milton Keynes..thats 2 hrs from both London and Birmingham...Location though is on a negative side...reputation and standard is not...its a *big* privilege to be on the rolls of Cranfield-SOM!

Warwick is an exact 15 mins from Birmingham (by bus)..In fact you can see Warwick Uni from the Birmingham Airport itself...Its around 90mins from London (by train). Warwick ranks very very high on reputation among the corporates.

Comparing the 3 business schools for MBA course I would say: Cranfield=Warwick>Lancaster. But for the MSc course I would say: Warwick>Cranfield>Lancaster.

And oh, the whole of UK is cosmopolitan!

Although Warwick and Lancaster are better ranked as universities in the UK rankings, Manchester is better ranked as a university in world rankings plus Manchester's business school is better ranked than Warwick's which is better ranked than Lancaster?s when taking an average of all recognised rankings (FT, EIU, QS, Business Week, Forbes). Manchester has a much better global reputation benefitting from the name of the city and being established long before Warwick and Lancaster although Warwick's and Lancaster?s business schools were formed not long after Manchester's so overall MBS has achieved more than WBS and LUMS so far. Warwick and Lancaster have pleasant countryside campuses but almost in the middle of nowhere compared to Manchester's location in the middle of a big city although that's up to individual preference. Although they are all cosmopolitan, Manchester is much more so than the others being a major city and is becoming widely considered as UK?s second city after London. Warwick's and Lancaster?s MBA is 12 months long, Manchester's is 18 so WBS and LUMS gets you back to employment quicker but MBS teaches you more and gives you more opportunities, especially international. Manchester's MBA costs about £33k whereas Warwick's MBA costs £22k and Lancaster?s £20k but as you will only be doing the MBA once, cost and time should really not be the deciding factors. I would go for Manchester at this point in time although I expect Warwick and Lancaster to catch up soon considering their rapid growth. As for specific disciplines such as finance or marketing, both offer those subjects and have a strong focus on them but in any case, as with all top business schools, you can choose your electives to suit your interests and goals. About the sudden rise or fall in rankings, these things reflect changes in the methodology of the rankings more than anything else, the reputation still stands. Hope that helps.

MBS has far better reputation worlwide than Warwick and Lancaster, the latter ones a very reputable, but mostly in the UK and in Asia... even in the UK I would say MBS is better...and jointly founded AMBA with LBS if you did not know...and regarding a comment about the UK being so cosmopolitan, dude, have you ever been to the UK?..if not i'll drop it down for you...if you want cosmopolitan go to London... second choice but far far away would be Birmingham...then farther, Manchester...and thats it...lancaster, well its just a small town were they look funny at foreigners (as they haven't seen many),and Coventry (the city of Warwick Uni) is known as a dead city in the UK, very boring...but at least you'll focus on your studies

come off it, warwick isn't even close to coventry, you will be stuck in the middle of the countryside with lots of posh kids from private schools... :-)

Warwick is outside Coventry in the green belt with nice accommodation but slightly cut off from the city.

If you want the real coventry experience (not recommended) then go to Coventry University.

This is a doubt that I would like to ask to the MBA students of Manchester Business School residing in Dubai.
I just got accepted to the program and I have chosen Dubai as my International center. Since I don't reside in Dubai, can anyone give me an insight as to how frequent I would be required to travel for compulsory workshops? Do they have an online alternative?
I would be great if I get a reply because this is a really important decision to make as I would be self funding my MBA. Thanks!

JamieO is right...University of Warwick is not in the heart of the city of Coventry...rather out-skirts..Coventry University being a city based uni, is located in the city of Coventry...Warwick Uni is a campus based Uni and being located outskirts has no influence of the dry/dead coventry atmosphere what-so-ever...

the Warwick Uni is out of bounds for most coventry residents...hardly any coventry resident comes to the campus since the campus has restricted access and a tight security vigilance...No commoner can run business in the Warwick Uni campus since the campus is a private property so if u r a Warwick U student staying on campus, you wont be in contact with ill effects of coventry...

The campus is lively...Warwick Students Union is supposed to be the biggest among all UK Uni SUs...top bands perform at the SU owned disco...on Nov 30, Ministry of Sound is scheduled to perform and the nearest place to Warwick Uni is Leamington Spa which is quite happening and contains a hell lot of good night clubs which run amazing parties, good resturants, shops etc...its several times more expensive than Coventry...posh and clean place...The Warwick Uni is itself a very posh and modern place... in fact extravagant to some extent...Warwick Uni does share Coventry postcode...but this part of coventry is supposed to be the most expensive place to live in Coventry...very urbane and yes, dangerously posh!

A journey to proper Coventry City from Warwick Uni campus will be of 20 mins duration by coach...and the coach no. is 12 if you want to know...If you happen to study at Warwick, u never need to go to Coventry city, cz the real fun parties are at Leamington Spa area.

Let me reiterate what JamieO has said -- "If you want the real coventry experience (not recommended) then go to Coventry University."...

Even Warwick also has...diff is that the most of the content of Manchester's career service is available freely available n internet but you need to be a student of warwick Uni to access most of the Warwick career service webpages...since you are not able to see the Warwick content hence u r under such an impression...
