Online Cranfield compared to On-Campus Surrey EMBA

Hello, I have offers from both Cranfield and Surrey to start an EMBA this year. Normally Cranfield would be my first choice as has a better rating. However, due to COVID, the entire first year at Cranfield will be on-line only, whereas Surrey is not. I am therefore now considering Surrey as whilst the rating is lower, I may have a better experience and gain more from being able to attend in person. I am therefore seeking advice to help me decide.

I am currently working in a managerial role within the technology sector and the purpose of the EMBA is to increase my skills and support future promotion/career development rather than seeking new employment in the short-mid term. Thank you.

I don't think the data show that the online experience is on balance worse for most MBA students, but it is different. There are lots of things that would develop your skills, like the Chartered Manager qualification. If you are aiming at an MBA then remember that you never know how it might help you in your career. I would be very cautious about turning down Cranfield, especially if you are on the apprentinceship track which is free and might cause you to misvalue the degree.

Thank you Duncan, your points are very helpful in making my decision.

Regarding funding, yes the Cranfield option is part employer levy funded but I have a 50% scholarship offer from Surrey so the financial cost is approximately equal for both options.
