Under 10K GBP: better an accredited school's MSc than an unaccredited MBA?
Posted Sep 03, 2011 12:05
Hi there,
I had a message from a 10-year telecoms manager in India asking which MBA under 10K GBP I would recommend to him. Does anyone have thoughts about my reply, below?
"I could not recommend an MBA under 10K in the UK. It would leave you looking at newer universities like Lampeter, Solent, Northampton or Cumbria which don't recruit high quality students and often do not require any work experience.
"It would be better for you to improve your GMAT score to get scholarships to reduce the fees at an accredited MBA to around 10,000.
"If you really need to to stick that that budget then I would suggest:
- An MSc in business management from a more respected Europe university, like Euromed Management Marseille in France, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Italy, University of Groningen, University of Twente, Radboud University Nijmegen or Tilburg University in the Netherlands, or UK universities like Edinburgh Napier University, Swansea University, Keele University, Kingston University, University of Stirling, University of Leicester or University of Wales, Aberystwyth.
- An MBA elsewhere, like Warsaw University of Technology, Chambéry Graduate School of Business, the University of Pisa or Furtwangen University of Applied Science. These will be higher quality in terms of students, facilties, educaitona nd connection to employers."

I really want to know which B-schools (specially in europe and asia ) accept dental graduates and what should be the expected GMAT score.I had decent scores during my graduation.I am now working as consultant dental surgeon in a private clinic in India. But i really wish to get an MBA degree 1-2 years from now.
Experience- 2 yrs
Graduation- BDS from PGIMS,Rohtak (Amongst top 5 in India )
GPA- 3.82/4
Not much of extra-curricular activities though !

I can't think of any business schools would not accept dentists, but average GMAT scores at schools differ widely from perhaps 550 to 790 depending on quality. Europe's social health schemes mean dentists are less likely to take MBAs here, so you might be an interesting candidate.
The universities with the most alumni who are dentists with MBAs include:
# Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences
# University of Southern California
# Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences
# University of the Pacific
# Brigham Young University
# Universidade de São Paulo
# Boston University
# University of Pennsylvania
# University of Washington
# The University of Western Ontario
# University of California, Los Angeles

I think you'll need to do more research yourself into those schools. The LSE, of course, does not offer a full-time MBA. The others will expect more work experience than you currently have: on average around 5 years and a 670 GMAT.

Hi Duncan,
I was the one with the Question. Can u guide me to some good universities for MSC Computer Science. I have shortlisted Warwick and Aston as their course structure perfectly complements my domain. Appreciate your response.
Tabraiz.

I can't really offer much there. At the undergraduate level, this ranking is useful: http://www.guardian.co.uk/education/table/2011/may/17/university-guide-computer-sciences-it

Getting back to the original discussion:

Yes! Programs in Eastern Europe would definitely be worth looking at. WUT is great, CEU's program is a one-year at just about 10k pounds.

Costs will also be low, but I guess these students will have a great RoI.
