Hi all. I will be graduating with a University of London external law degree and I would like to do an MBA. I am torn between the following choices and would like some advice. If anyone has studied or currently studying at any of these schools, please do assist me. Thank you very much.

1) University of London Global MBA
GMAT : No
Duration : 1 year
Fees : £14,585 or USD $18,735

Once you complete the MBA, you receive CMI’s Level 7 Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership. If you have sufficient work experience, you can also gain Chartered Manager status. If you graduate with a specialist MBA in Accountancy, you become eligible to sit the CIMA Master’s Gateway exam. This is an accelerated route towards the CIMA Professional Qualification.

Why do you want an MBA? If you are not concerned with career progression, then the Maryland MBA core might work for you. However, for specific career goals a well accredited MBA will be a better investment.

Hi Duncan. Thank you very much for your reply. I have trawled through this website extensively and have seen several of your contributions. I want to do an MBA so that I can go into corporate law with the necessary skills that an MBA will equip me with. I would like to do an MBA with a British university. Cost is an issue hence the shortlist of the possible universities listed above.

Durham is the only school you mention with international accreditation. I'd pick that from your list. Why not consider a US MBA like Illinois or Boston?

What does your work experience look like? Are you a practicing lawyer who wants to move into law firm admin / management? I'm trying to figure out how an MBA would fit into your career goals, and why you wouldn't want to do something like an LLM in Corporate Law.

I am a bit unsure about these options. Do corporate law professionals have LLMs or MBAs? Maybe a joint business and law qualification is an idea? IE and Northwestern have an excellent joint executive LLM, which I think is around €35k. Edinburgh Law School has an online LLM in international commercial law.

I would really focus on narrowing your career goals. I'm honestly not sure there is much value in a law-related MBA degree. Are there actual jobs in corporate law that require / prefer an MBA?

That is not a strong curriculum: just compare it to any accredited MBA. You could get an AACSB-accredited online MBA with a solid managerial core for the same price, for example at Minnesota State University.

Triple accreditation is better. I would certainly consider Strathclyde a very good option if you can afford it.

I should add: tripe accreditation is really common with European schools, because the US, UK and European accreditation allow them to access different pools of applicants and employers more easily. However. none of the top US schools have triple accreditation and that cannot be held against them.
