How many schools is too many?

I'm just curious - how many schools are people applying to?

I can't seem to decide, or maybe I just don't want to narrow my list down. I plan on applying to the following MBAs:

Booth
Wharton
Columbia
NYU
Darden
Cornell
Yale

That's 7 schools, is that too many? The top three are obviously the ones I would be EXTREMELY happy to get into. NYU/Darden/Cornell are my backups - and Yale is interesting to me because it seems a bit more intimate than the others and all the Yale MBAs I've talked to have been really happy with their career progression.

Long explanation, I know, but do you think that 7 schools is too many to apply to?

No magic number. Apply to as many schools as you can, provided your quality of application is maintained to your liking, and you don't upload the essay meant for NYU to Darden.

Also, it's a good practice to spread your risk. So apply to Booth, Wharton, Cornell and the likes, but keep some safety schools in Tier II like Penn State, Arizona State or Boston University, Kelley etc.
