Profile review: 740 GMAT, engineer --> consulting

I was hoping that you all could advise me on what schools I can apply to.

About me: I'm a 33 year old mechanical engineer. I have worked with a big company in the aerospace field for 6 years. I finished my bachelor degree rather late (when I was 27.)

Now, maybe it's far fetched but I would like to go into consulting. Took the GMAT and got 740. My undergraduate GPA was 3.2, and I did not do any extracurricular activities.

Which schools should I apply? (US only)

It's not far-fetched to want to go into consulting - that's something a top-tier MBA does really, really well. Not to be offensive, but maybe look beyond MBB firms as these tend to hire younger, more moldable candidates; or those who already have worked in consulting.

However, there are a huge range of other consulting firms out there, even ones that might want to leverage your aerospace for certain clients.

It's not far-fetched to want to go into consulting - that's something a top-tier MBA does really, really well. Not to be offensive, but maybe look beyond MBB firms as these tend to hire younger, more moldable candidates; or those who already have worked in consulting.

That's what I was thinking. Bain and BCG both have Aerospace/Defense practices - they were my target, honestly, but I am now worried a bit about your comment that maybe I am too old.

Either way, I'm going to apply to Kellogg, MIT, and Columbia. Do you have any further suggestions/comments about my school choices? Thank you...

For the US, I do think you are a risky choice for MBB. You are more likely to go into another, perhaps less famous, consulting firm and then move over as an experienced hire.
