Fascinating choices. I think this really depends on your career goals and how much you already know your direction. Thunderbird's alumni are in open revolt against the school, and I think it's a risky choice. SFSU students actually get higher salaries (See http://business-schools.findthebest.com/compare/49-65/Thunderbird-School-of-Global-Management-AZ-vs-San-Francisco-State-University-CA ) but there's clearly less non-faculty resource there to support students, although there are some good-looking careers workshops. The quality of Thunderbird students will be higher and more diverse, but also younger and more dissatisfied with their school.

With a gun against my head I would choose SFSU for myself, but I would also spend the tuition you save on the career development and language training which SFSU will be weaker on.

Could you clarify this? Are alumni unhappy with the school?

I'm not sure what I would choose. Thunderbird is ranked in the Economist, but SFSU isn't. But SFSU has a really great concentration in Sustainable Business, which is personally interesting to me, so that would probably tip the scales a bit.

In terms of other projects, why not start a sustainable SCM initiative at SFSU, maybe borrowing on other projects? http://www.supplychainschool.co.uk/ Is a nice example.
