Tampa seems much better. Akron is a great university, but they have a part-time MBA programme aimed at people already in work. Full-time students just join their evening classes. There seems to be no real careers service there. Tampa has a much wider range of employers in the region, and a better set-up.

for mba finance which one wins it in all aspects for my score.
my gmat score :600
my toefl score :109 and academics :8.58/10.0
is there any better college i should have applied for with regards to my scores (in that case i could wait for spring 2011)

What is your work experience like? Where are you? If there's something interesting or unusual about you, then you might be able to get into a better known programme.

Lonb Beach is, sadly, not in the University of California but in the less well known California State University. It seems like a good school with a good understanding of how to develop the MBA. However, you are over the average GMAT for that school, and think you should hunt for schools where the average student is at least as well qualified as you - that way you will learn more.

I think you might also want to think about career services. University of Michigan-Dearborn Is mainly a part-time school, so it will not have serious careers services. My guess is that Long Beach is better for jobs than Dearborn.

By the way, do you want to get your US MBA and then leave the country? Maybe that's why you are looking at accelerated MBAs with no internships or careers services? There are lots of places outside the USA where you can get a US MBA inexpensively, and some are high quality, like the MBA-GBS program offered by UNC Charlotte and ITESM or GISMA's programme with Purdue.

PS From your list, I would choose Tampa.

Thanks for such a detailed answer.. it was very helpful. i forgot to add my experience.. i am a marine engineer, worked for 3.5 years. i am from India and looking for MBA program in u.s. Looking to get into management sector as marine no longer has the same charm (money-wise) as the same salaries is obtained on land.
As i had little time for applying for colleges. (i got on land in the month of feb 2011) and so i had to rush through gmat and toefl, and started applying for colleges. i missed many deadlines of many colleges . is it possible to transfer to different colleges with the scores i have obtained after initially joining the universities i have in hand? i don't favor to write gmat again (cant bear grueling 3-4 hrs of exam.)
About univ. of Tampa i heard its a private university. Does that have any effect on the certification. i am looking for colleges whose degrees are recognized world-wide.

No, you can't transfer between colleges. What's important is that you find schools accredited at the graduate level by AACSB. All you schools you mention that that organisation's quality seal, and that is very important. In the US there's a big difference between older private universities, which are non-profits (they are generally more prestigious than state universities) and newer, for-profit, universities (they are generally less prestigious). A solid, 80-year old, private university like Tampa will probably have better financial aid and facilities than a state university. Dearborn and Long Beach also gets into the top 300. So I think these are all strong schools academically. I would look at the students (mostly international vs. mostly US?), the career options (good or bad on-campus services, what's the local economy like), and the entrance requirements (the higher the average standard, the better the learning experience).

thanks for your views.. i am opting for both tampa and akron. location of Akron is cheaper and also has a mix of international students, also chances of obtaining grad. assist. is higher. well lets see which one provides me with one.also the gmat requirenment for tampa is just 500 (avg) where as for akron seems avg. is 580.

The requirement and the average are, obviously, different things. The average at every school is higher than the minimum required, so don't compare 'apples and oranges'. If you;re quite sure that you don't want to work in the US, then it sounds like Akron is the better choice but, remember, it will have no careers support dedicated for MBAs because the students are almost all in employment already. Also so consider the climate: I think you'll find Akron and Dearborn quite inhospitably cold (as well as economically depressed) while Tampa and Long Beach are literally and metaphorically hotter.
