Career in IT companies and startups in Europe after graduation.

Hello everyone,

I am 30 years old from Russia with 7+ years experience in IT in PM and sales roles. I wish to do an MBA with entrepreneurship or marketing track and find a job in IT company or a startup, also interested in VC. I speak B1/B2 French. In April I scored GMAT 660, plan to have another attempt in September. After long investigation I shortlisted HEC Paris and ESMT and RSM in case don't get accepted to HEC. Would you recommend anything else? How does my choice correspond with my goals?

I think it would be good for you to focus more, and consider if you really need a formal track. VCs don't hire from entrepreneurship tracks, generally For a wide range of choices then a top school like HEC, LBS or Insead will be okay. Certainly improve your GMAT and French.

I'm not sure that startups hire MBAs either, at least not with similar salaries as MBAs are otherwise useful. If you want to start your own startup, though, look to schools in the startup hubs: London (LBS), Berlin (ESMT), Madrid (IE). Keep in mind though, that this is not a typical path for most MBA grads.

Hello, thank you for your replies.

I got admitted to RSM and ESMT, also applied to IE. Unfortunately, I got rejected from HEC after interview. INSEAD is out for this year, I didn't have time to retake my toefl and GMAT. LBS would be great for the next year, but I need to start in January and they don't have January intake. So I have ESMT, RSM and IE left. What would you suggest. I gave up idea working for VCs. So basically I am searching for career in IT multinationals after graduation, like Google or Amazon, and entrepreneurship opportunities. As I understood Berlin and Amsterdam provide the best infrastructure for that, only London is better. In Paris they still speak too much French. But I am concerned that IE is a top ranked school and has startup incubators. So do you think there is a big difference in quality of education at IE on one side and RSM and ESMT on the other side?

See where the international students end up. Also read: Do you need to speak the local language? www.find-mba.com/board/34713 because the language issue is as important in Madrid and Berlin as in Paris.

Google and Amazon both have offices in Berlin, but it doesn't look like they have many MBA-type jobs there, at least not those that do not require German:
