In my experience, future employers value an MBA degree also partly because it demonstrates your language skills in English. Of course, nowadays most MBA schools teach in English but it is always more effective to improve one's language skills in a country with native-speakers as teachers and citizens. Therefore, if you are not a native speaker and you have the choice between an English speaking country and another, I would always go for the English-speaking country, unless the other school has a strong international reputation Like INSEAD e.g.).

My education till date has entirely been taught in english. I would rate myself above average....more than satisfactory.....when it comes to talking, writing or speaking english.

Here , what I want to know is...which School between Rotterdam and Edinburgh has a better reputaion in Europe(including UK) . Secondly, which B-school between these can put oneself in a better postion in the job market.

In economist MBA rankings Edinburgh is placed much higher whereas in all others such as FT, WSJ, Forbes etc etc.... Rotterdam School of Management has been rated among the top 25 B-schools in the World.

I know Rankings shouldn`t be the most appropriate method of evaluating one B-school. Still, I give 50% weightage to the rankings in this context.

Furthermore, I am concerned to know wat benefit can one get after studying from a traditional university such as Edinburgh in comparison to Rotterdam, a newly established in recent times.

What I think......after graduating from Edinburgh one can hope to get placed 'better' in UK similarly after graduatiing from Rotterdam one can hope to get placed 'better' in Europe other than UK......

Moreover , can you suggest which B-school between these 2 enjoy a better reputation/goodwill outside Europe.....and ....which has an edge in the corporate world(recruitment)..........Thanks

I can only speak for the German job market but I would say that Edinburgh has an edge over Rotterdam, although just a tiny one. But this may also simply be because NL is a neighbour country to germany, therefore studying there does not really sound like going "abroad" if you know what I mean. I have heard that in Asia these differences are not perceived in the same way, so I guess it is a European perspective. If you plan to work in the UK, ireland or the US however my guess is that Edinburgh will be valued higher.

Wat about the Economist Intelligence Unit Rankings. It is a sister concern of Financial Times. Whose Salary figures are fake. InEconomist MBA .....rankings for salary show a good difference in Rotterdam and Edinburgh...with Edinburgh much higher. On the other hand, the salary figures quoted in Financial Times shows a subsequent difference .....with Rotterdam with a upper hand.

That's strange indeed. But both FT and Economist should be trustworthy sources of information, I wouldn't say that one of them is better or more reliable than the other.

I disagree. I think both b-schools are absolutely on par. In the the "popularity ranking" at http://www.find-mba.com/most-popular-mba-programs you will find RSM ranked 31. (38.) and Edinburgh 50. (45.) as per today.

Which carry a better brand in the world as a freelancer MBA from one of these unis.

After much much research I have made my decision in favour of University of Edinburgh.
I hope to get a little better international exposure, hone my english skills, Location wise both are at par. Edinburgh is the caipal of Scotland and among the top 3 financial cities of Europe. Rotterdam on the other hand is among the major shipping ports of the world. When it comes to job market I was much confused. Both Schools command respect of the same parity but getting a job in Netherlands or surrounding areas for Asians is one kick in the ass....one has to struggle, fight and is not guaranteed a job that one expects when compared to other European equals.
Edinburgh has much oppurtunities and is better as this gap is minimized. A very old University though has been demoted in the recent 5-7 years...but....the university is sure to fight back and revive the lost glory.

As I said: I think you could not go wrong with your decision as both schools are excellent. I have been to Edinburgh a couple of years ago and I really loved it. It's a cosy studenty town with a lot of cultural things going on. Good luck with your studies!

You have all my respect, even if it is hard to me to understand why, with all the good quality MBAs based in city like Barcelona, Melbourne, Madrid...which are even cheaper you are still struggling to get an MBA in a bad weather country.

I couldn't agree more. I spent 6 months in Edinburgh in 1998 and loved every minute of it. it is wonderful place to be a student.
