Further Studies after my MBA?

I am currently waiting to start my MBA by Sept.I would like to seek a professional advice on a further studies after my MBA in the UK. I am thinking of Phd but considering the fact the Phd is more academic is it worth venturing into after my MBA, my career goal is to be a consultant in a blue chip company creating and providing modern business approaches to solving issues, in the long term I want to own my own consulting firm focusing on improving processes and customer satisfaction. I am also begging to have a re-think to look out for UN jobs, how will my MBA with elective in Strategy get me the UN job inline with my goal?

What other further studies can get me there? I am also interested in public sector jobs in my country. I am eager to provide modern approaches to solving business issues.

Would you advice a PHD or DBA or professional courses to further develop the skills I need. Please advice

Is your MBA at an AMBA or AACSB-accredited school? There are several post-MBA certificates, diplomas and degrees available, many of which are aimed at graduates of alumni of accredited programmes. Look at Thunderbird's degree, Schulich's diploma, Marshall's MSBA, IE's +Modules, the MBA+ at Edinburgh and similar programmes.

P.S. Are you taking the right masters? Why not take a degree which will give you what you are looking for?

P.P.S. A doctorate will not be the most effective way to develop the skills you need for consulting or work in the UN. Speak to the careers team at your business school about that, but more relevant work experience will be the best way.

Use LinkedIn to see which schools the UN recruits the most MBAs from, for example:
London Business School
INSEAD
Columbia University - Columbia Business School
HEC School of Management
University of Cambridge

Maybe focus on those? Insead and HEC have very similar progammes in consulting and coaching for change. Take a look.

Yes, my Business School is AMBA accredited. Is it possible to change the direction of my goals once I get in the business school? I mean the goals I had in mind before my application.

I will look at the websites for the certifications you have recommended and maybe consider those after studies. I want to equip myself well enough to make make relevant in variety of industries.

Yes, lots of students change their goals.

PS Excellent suggestion below about MBAs oriented on NGOs and public service, like Birmingham and Geneva.

I'm not sure that a PhD will give you much leverage in terms of the kinds of consulting jobs you are looking for, because a PhD usually puts people on a path towards academics - research/teaching kinds of positions.

I would think that an MBA with a focus in strategy or innovation would be fine for the kinds of consulting jobs you're aiming for.

In terms of UN jobs - are you talking about the United Nations? Again, unless you are doing policy research or something along those lines, I am not sure how a PhD would be beneficial. If anything, you might want to look at an MBA program like Birmingham's, which places a lot of people in the NGO and non-profit sectors. The school's MBA in Public Service could set you up quite nicely for a job in the UN or a local public service job.
