MA management and economics in university of Zurich

Hello everyone,

I am Ashish from Mew Delhi, India. I have received an admit from university of zurich in MA management and economics for fall 2019. But many people have confused me regarding the potential employment and work permit in switzerland as i am non-european.

My profile:

1. Bachelors - Electronics engg. 2011 passout
2. 7+ years of work experience in Automotive industry after bachelors.
3. Currently working

I wanted to do MBA but its costly for me. So i landed up at this course.

But is it good for experienced professional like me? Will i be a suitable candidate for swiss employers? I am learning german too, but not fluent.

Please guide me. Looking forward to valuable comments.

I know german is very important in zurich. So i have started learning it from last year. Certainly i will try to learn more and more.
But major concern point is if this program is suitable for my experience or not.

Currently i work in electric vehicle development. I can work on its infrastructure development in switzerland. But i dont know whether any company there will hire me for such strategy roles after this program and provide work permit.

Looking forward to your feedback.

You obviously won't speak German to a professional level by graduation. What does the University say about employment prospects?

The university says that the job prospects are generally good after the program but non-europeans face work permit issue (not everyone).

What do you think? If you happen to come across previously with non-europeans with this course. I am confused if this program will complement my work experience or not. Kindly help.

The university has given you a rather general answer so give them a more specific question. Do non-EU, non-German speaking, non-resident graduates of the MA normally find relevant work in Switzerland after the degree?

I don't know if work permit issues would be the most problematic issue. Language - as well as the fact that the job markets in Europe generally favor local candidates - would be more of an issue.

You can ask the school to address these issues as well, and ask them if they have any examples of grads from your region who have successfully managed the transition you'd like to do.

I got the following reply from UZH:

“I am discussing your case with my peer. We both agree, that it is very difficult to give any recommendations.
We both see a potential, that your technical skills could be interesting in combination with an economic Master and with cultural experiences.
Still, the risk, that you will not get a permit (if you want to stay here) is very high.”
