Profile evaluation: 8 years with big 4 including two years in the US, GMAT 700...

Hello All,

I am applying for 2018 MBA programs. It would be great if you can share some insights for my application here. My profile for evaluation listed below.

Nationality: Chinese
GPA: 3.1/4
Work exp: one of the Big 4 accounting firms, audit manager, 8 years in total, with 6 years in China and two in the US through a very competitive rotation program.
Age: 31
GMAT : 700 IELTS: 8
Qualification: China CPA & USCPA

For some personal reasons, I would like to go to schools in or close to NYC. So I am checking Cornell, NYU and also Yale. Post-MBA goal is to get a corporate finance job in a reputable company in the US, not that into consulting or investment banking considering my background and age.

What are my chances to get into those schools? Do I need to take GMAT again to get a 730+ score? If those are hard to reach, what options are more realistic for me?

One thing: Cornell is not really close to NYC. It takes at least four hours to get there, on a good day by car. Getting to NYC from Yale would be more doable but still not something you'd want to do more than a couple of times a month.

I think that schools in general will like your work experience - as it sets you apart from many other applicants from China - but you might still want to improve your GMAT to be safe. Are you considering Columbia as well?

I think a 730+ on the GMAT would help you substantially at the schools you're looking at. But don't wait too long, as we're getting well into the application cycle at this point.

You're from a competitive applicant group, and many of your applicant cohort will have high GMAT scores. Your work experience will look good to them, though.
