Well, I think it's very much a niche programme, mainly of interest to people wanting to connect to the Japanese market. If you're in that niche, there's not much to discuss. Actually, I think the volume of discussion about Japanese MBAs is higher that I would have guessed.

Not to side track BPHLIAO's queries, but I was hoping to get some answers of my own, I'll be obliged if I can get your views.

I am currently working as an Telecommunications Engineer, and want to transform my Career into Operations / SCM. While I am aware of the better known MBA Programs for SCM, I am also aware of my GMAT score and it's shortcomings.

However I got to know of a MS in SCM program by University of Texas at Dallas, what will be your opinion about it?

Will a MS in SCM program able to transform an individual for a career in SCM / Operations?

Also, any idea about tentative salary statistics from such programs? (I am aware of MIT - SCM, UMich MSCM, Olin MS in SCM) but my GMAT is currently not in the ballpark.

How does prospective recruiters view MS in SCM vis-a-vis MBA in SCM ?

I don't know the salaries, but I'd guess they's be well below MBA graduates from the same school. I'm a fan of these MSc programmes at UTD. They are mostly few, and they are evening programmes mostly, aimed at commuters. They are great value for money, but perhaps not the best careers services... Speak to students there and find out more.

It may not be a fun and friendly job for a engineer background people. It is a routine job need great dicipline.

Thanks for the input, we'll the industry I am in - Telecommunications - is changing at a rapid rate and shrinking with margins dropping day -by - day.

So on a old technology that requires let's say 100 people to perform a daily task, on a new technology only 10 people are required.

I want to get out of my technical role into a generlist role which (i hope) to be transparent across industries.

Hence, I am opting for a higher education - masters/MBA - to transform from technical function into a generlist function.

- HR
- Marketing
- Consulting
- Operations

out of the above, I don't have a work experience in Finance / HR / Marketing. The role I am currently involved is Technical Consulting (which is different from Management or Finance Consulting), prior to this I was in Projects which is a part of Operations silo.....
Marketing / HR roles usually go to the locals and not to Indians. In India Marketing bascially translate into Sales, it's whole new ball game all together.
I don't have the thurst for a pure Finance course (otherwise I would have done Bachelors in Commerce not in Technology)

Only options left are Operations & Consulting, I believe that I can leverage on my past experience the most if I opt to pursue a career in Operations/SCM and move out of my technical role.

Let me know your thoughts :)

base on your sharing, i have to say consulting and operation are two best options. As long as you find a prefered subject to do operation, I believe you would love it.

One way to test, if you enjoy the work model of a project type, you probably won't enjoy operation that much. Project always has start and end but operation is not like that.

I think you could apply to some pretty great colleges right here in the States. I?ve been considering an MBA for a while and I?ve narrowed my options down to a few based on my preferences. I read about California College San Diego that offers degrees in a number of in-demand fields such as information technology, business and healthcare. Since you mentioned that you like technology and would ideally like to continue working in that sector, you might want to consider some of their business and technology master programs. I?d suggest you read a student review about California College San Diego to get a student?s perspective about the college, if you?re interested. Keep us posted about what you finally decide.

I need your advise regarding to MBA program. My profile:
-Country: Ukraine
-education: medical
-experience: 7 years in pharma sales and marketing
-current job: at international pharma company
-role: marketing and scientific (specialist)

My goal is Marketing Manager position at a big pharma company for several years and then to start my own business (not decided yet in which sector). Optionally I could change industry after graduation.
I considered IE full-time program but it still expensive for me and I would afford it due to scholarship and loan. As an option IE Global MBA is less expensive but I have no energy and motivation make a good job on my position anymore.
So I'm looking for change in my career and ask advise.

If you want to leave, then it will be easier for you use a full-time MBA with an internship, which would all you to more easily move into a similar role, staying in the same industry, than to change role, industry and country. Congrats. IE is pretty good with financial aid resources - I think students receive on average almost 1/3rd of the tuition in scholarships, of which there are many. Check out the IE financial aid blog for more info.

I got a scholarship from IE. It's really worth enough but doesn't met my expectations. So, Global MBA Program is appear in mind again.
I'm ask your critical view for IE online program vs full-time.
