Cranfield vs Lancaster vs Strathclyde

Dear guys,

I'm a 22 year-old boy from Italy (so... sorry for my bad english!).

I need some help to choose between these three universities: Cranfield, Lancaster and Strathclyde.

I've received an offer from all of them (the "MSc in Finance & Management" from Cranfield, the "MSc in Finance" from the other two), while got refused by Cass and Imperial (that actually were my first two choices).

I've seen the rankings on the FT, Forbes and Business Week, and Cranfield seems the better one; but sometimes rankings don't tell everything, therefore I would like to know some opinions.

Please consider that I'm really interested in a career in the private sector (finance), so I don't care too much about a PhD or the "reputation", rather than the ability of the university to find me a nice job in finance. :-)

p.s. please do not take in consideration everything related with the cost of the course, that will be something I'll discuss with my family!

As far as your query is concerned, in my opinion there isn't much of a gap between the three universites you have mentioned. The only differentiating factors would be their location, the modules they cover, the sort of student mix you seek to study with, etc. (e.g. in Strathclyde, the student body may not be as diverse as in Cranfield)

I strictly believe that rankings are there to serve just as a guide, they are not the absolute determinant, and the methodologies used to give points to universites and MBA programs are still very questionable. One ranking puts uni of Bath ahead of the Ivy League (something that is beyond my comprehension).

Seek advice from the Alumni of these Unis and various other credible sources to make an informed decision. Don't just blindly go for what is there on the internet.

I perfectly agree with that and I'll join the "open day" in Lancaster and Cranfield the next months, but I'm just looking for some other opinions (thanks for yours!).

I agree with the above comments. I would suggest talking to Alumni of the schools you're interested, as it's a really reliable way to find the information you're looking for. I recently spoke to some Alumni of finance programs from smaller, newer schools, and all of them have secured jobs with successful banking groups. So again, to reiterate the point above, it's not only about rankings.

I got in touch with some former student, and having other useful information to come up with a decision.
