Hult London: Good for Marketing?

Hello. I'm 31 years old and I'm from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I was recently admitted by Hult Business in London and I am considering it but I am having many doubts. First and foremost, I did my research and I know is not a top B school. I know their rank in the FT and how aggressive their marketing team is.

Having said that...I am a Journalism graduate who have worked for the past 5-6 years in the entertainment industry here in Brazil, mainly working on film & tv production companies and production of live, major events. I've never worked as a journalist my entire life and my whole experience has been with marketing, even though I am not a marketing graduate.

But I do think I need a Marketing degree in order to improve my professional career and achieve better positions. And Hult offers an MBA with a focus on Marketing, something most B schools in Europe do not offer.

I am choosing an MBA in Europe because I have a dual-citizenship (Brazil/Portuguese). Therefore, I think I might have better opportunities, career-wise, in Europe than in the US.

The MKT program on Hult is also less expensive than the regular Business program and much less expensive than most other business schools.

Is this a wise choice? Bear in mind, studying in a school that costs 50.000 Euros or Pounds is not an option for me, I simply cannot afford that. And also bear in mind that I do not plan on working as a banker or something of the kind.

Bottom line is: is Hult a good investment, considering everything I related? Should I try for a better one? Imperial College is ranking higher than Hult but it costs 36.000 pounds (as opposed to the Marketing program on Hult, which costs 40.000 dollars).

Actually, you may have more choice than you think: many European business schools do have focuses in marketing. For example, HEC Paris has a concentration in Marketing and Business Development and WHU in Germany has a focus in Marketing and Sales. And even if a program doesn't have a concentration per se, they will probably offer some electives: INSEAD has almost 10 courses in this area, and St. Gallen has a few specialized ones as well. So, don't limit yourself based on curriculum.

Yes but an non-English speaking country is not really an option for me because I want to be independent and have a life outside of the academic circle. And even try for a part-time job, if that is possible. I'm not that young anymore so the idea of spending a year only studying just feels wrong to me. The only option outside of the UK would be Erasmus in Rotterdam because everyone in the Netherlands speaks English but it is more expensive than Hult anyway.

Well I would certainly try for a job in England while I'm there and even after finishing the program, as I have an European passport, could legally work full-time and I scored 8.5 on my IELTS. Portugal (and Spain and Greece for that matter) is in bad shape right now so it would not be wise to try for anything there.

Having said all that, I am also considering Imperial College and City University. But they charge the tuition in GBP as opposed to Hult, which charges in American dollars. The current parity of currencies is: 1 Brazilian Real = 2 American Dollars, 2,35 Euros and 3,10 GBP, so you do the math.

As I said, I could try for an American institution but I will always be an immigrant in the States. Plus I know people in London and I do not know anyone in the US.

I really need some suggestion, even if it's a negative feedback, so please help me as I do not have a lot of time.

Duncan if you are reading this I would love your input, I read your comments on other threads and they are always insightful. And I know how you feel about Hult but I think my situation is a little different than that of other people.

Bradford MBA has amazing marketing concentration , I got an opportunity to take all the modules from Marketing, it is definitely a quality school way better than HULT with fee of only 23000 pounds and also living expensive dirt cheap and also has good accreditation.

Oh I see, but its not in London. I'm looking for schools in London, don't know how I'd feel about going to a smaller city. As I said I know plenty of people in London, which might help me.

Yes, I'm trying to finish my application to both Cass and Imperial. I'm rooting for Imperial, if I get a scholarship there then it might be possible. Otherwise it's too expensive.

at 15000 pounds hult mba "marketing" is tempting, very tempting..

honestly my only grudge against hult was their MBA fee, for london campus their fee is around 40000 pounds, only schools like LBS charge that much..

Haha what's with commas? ("Marketing"). Here in Brazil, at least, a strictly Marketing-focused MBA is not that uncommon.

But have you met anyone from Hult?

i never knew they had come up with something like that, but this is actually good for you, possibly on your degree it will have "HULT MBA-Marketing 2012-2013" :) and you are for sure going back into marketing industry.. its awesome.. i just had Masters Business Admins... on my degree!
