MBA from Good schools in UK to land up in Investment Banking or Corporate Finance role.

Hi,
I am an Indian guy with 4 years of work experience.

EY - 2 years - Audit
S&P - 2 years - Financial Research and Analysis

Bcom Hons Graduate with 70% and strong extra curricular .

Already spent 2 years to prepare for GMAT and have given few attempts but could only manage to get a score of 540 in main exam. So left with the option of non GMAT schools in UK.

So far I have received offers from Strathclyde, Lancaster, Loughborough MBA .

Decision pending - Durham, Leeds, Adam Smith Glasgow University, Nottingham Business School, Birmingham ( Global Banking and Finance).

I am planning to apply to University of Edinburgh Business School. Will it be a better option from few of the above mentioned schools.

Post MBA goals - Would like to end up working in Corporate Finance or Investment Banking Role .Doesn't matter whether it's UK or India. So preferring University's reputation and Brand value for finance jobs over International mobility.

Could anyone help me to select the best as per my goals and requirements.

Nottingham and Durham have good Finance program and also Birmingham offers finance.

Finance is a very wide field. Edinburgh, for example, is very strong for behavioural finance, carbon finance and financial technology. I am not sure if you are referring to NBS or NUBS in Nottingham. Have you looked at LinkedIn to compare alumni networks in your target firms?

PS Strathclyde is a strong school but of course the design is also about a strong core and fewer electives.

Did you consider MiF options?

Well, I guess EMLyon and IE are the schools best known for entrepreneurs in Europe. A certificate at Babson could allow an excellent semester focussed on your specific goals.

While I agree with Duncan, I think that a 540 GMAT score would be a hard sell at both EMLyon and at IE.

If you could get your GMAT score above 600, this would be a good start.

Durham- I feel 15 months program with internship will be a great start which would help me to get a sponsor in UK. Higher FT QS and Economist Rankings

Nottingham - Nottingham on the other hand has small batch size with strong finance elective ( Private Equity and Venture capital).

Strathclyde - Triple Accredited business school with strong Core modules with major batch end in Consulting and Finance roles as per the website.

Lancaster - Personally I don't like the area and is more focused on consulting program.

I'd lean toward Durham unless you were thinking of going to Scotland, in which case Strathclyde is probably the better option. Nottingham / Lancaster would be secondary choices; I can't see how either of those would be better for landing a job in the UK than Durham or Strath.

none of these schools will allow you to break into investment banking without any prior experience in IB. Certainly not with work ex at EY.

I'm not sure with this profile you get into top schools. But, LSBF, LBS offering MBAs with Finance specializations. Check once their websites and contact them. Hope you get more information

I'm not sure with this profile you get into top schools. But, LSBF, LBS offering MBAs with Finance specializations. Check once their websites and contact them. Hope you get more information

Thanks for the information. Just to inform you that I have accepted the offer at Nottingham University Business School as I have been awarded Ambassador scholarship worth 10000 pounds. Also I have a chance to study strong elective (Private Equity/Venture capital) at NUBS.

Moreover I am planning to start a 3 months fellowship with a Private Equity Firm in India before going for my MBA. I certainly believe this 3 months would provide me the flavor of PE industry which would help me to land up in same profile post my MBA in India.

Unless you want to study in a class with 95% Chinese students, do not pick Adam Smith.
