MBA in the US

Hello everyone,

I am deeply interested in applying for an MBA program in the US. I'm egyptian and have computer engineering degree from an Egyptian university.
I have over 5 years in extensive professional experience, tons of professional certifications in my field, currently studying a postgraduate diploma in Executive Management at the American university in Cairo, some extracurricular activities during high school and little volunteer work during my undergrad and some community service these days.
I am about to sit for the GMAT (Hopefully will try to go for a 700+), and have scored a 106 in the TOEFL iBT.
My weakest point is my undergrad GPA, it's goes around 2.7 which is not that great.

I am not shooting for Ivy league programs of course but I hope to get in a respectable program, hopefully on fellowship or scholarship.
Do you think I have a shot in this? Is there anything I should do to make my application better for such schools? And to get around my low GPA?

hi i am from india....currently pursuing my btech in mechanical engineering...i don not have work experience expect 4 some in-plant trainings...i have a decent undergrad GPA of 6.7...and iam expectin a score of above 1300 in GRE(hopefully) and yet 2 sit 4 TOEFL and GMAT.....My question s do i have any chance for availing scholarships?? what are the universities i should b applying ?? also approximate fees

Hi Ahmed, the profile that you have mentioned is good and almost better than many of the other profiles that would apply for MBA in US. Since you have 5 years of professional experience, it?s obvious that you had held some leadership based position in your career. That is one of the major requisites in a B School in US. If you can get 700+ then that?s more than enough to get any good colleges that you aspire to study.

Your lack of work experience will be the weak part of your application. If you are truly interested in MBA programs, do yourself a favor and go into the workforce for a couple of years before applying. There's really no sense in pursuing an MBA program without first knowing what it's like in the field.

An MBA provides an academic framework to hone your work skills - and you will be much better off at least having something before you start studying.

Although I am set for a promotion to a team lead position as I'm in a senior position in my team for a while now, I haven't officially been promoted to a leadership position yet.

I mean, I act as team lead during projects but the title is not there yet, officially-speaking.

Do yo think that matter? Or you mean I should wait to hold this leadership position first?

Hi Binaya,

You'll need two to three years of work experience to get into a reputable MBA program in the US.
