Northern Californian: Need help looking for an MBA program

Hi All,

First, thanks for taking the time to read/help me with me post.

I have a B.S in Microbiology and Minor in chemistry from San Jose State. I had 1.5 years working as a Quality Tech at a dairy manufacturing plant. Now I'm a Quality Supervisor (Team Lead) For a Cannery (Processing Tomatoes) for almost 1.5 year now. I'm currently working at a big food manufacturing plant which inspired to me to go back to school while working. I really want to push my knowledge in business/management/strategy/manufacturing. I know UCD offers a part-time program that will most likely work for me.

I need help looking into a schools/program that is close to where I work because my goal is to excel in what I am currently doing.

I know that I don't have a lot of work experience compared to a lot of future applicants. However, do you guys know what schools look at? Which criteria weighs more than others when it comes to choosing an applicant? I'm new to the idea of a MBA, but it's definitely something I want to pursue. Any help would be great. Are you only looking at part-item programs? Then you'll probably want to stay close to where you work. If you're near Davis, it's more than a hour's drive each way to Berkeley, if you wanted to do their fantastic part-time MBA.

A bigger issue would probably be that most of these part-time MBA programs recruit students who are further along in their careers. With only 1.5 years of work experience, you might be well under what they'd be looking for.

Because of this, perhaps a school that's not so competitive - CSU Sacramento offers a part-time MBA and is AACSB accredited, for instance, might be a more appropriate choice. University of the Pacific might also be worth looking at.

I would send some preliminary emails to the schools in the region to see how competitive they think you'd be. They should give you a realistic answer.
