Top 10 MBAs in Canada
Posted Oct 07, 2014 13:36
I just saw that canadabusiness.com has a new top 10 list of MBA programs in Canada. Here's the list:
1. Queen's
2. HEC Montreal
3. York - Schulich
4. Concordia
5. Alberta
6. Victoria
7. Ottawa
8. Calgary
9. Manitoba
10. Ryerson
Not taking it too seriously because UBC, McGill, Toronto Rotman, Western Ivey and Windsor refused to take part in the ranking, and also because it focuses on lower budget programs. Maybe a good starting point for somebody though.

Given this publication's focus and the ranking's methodology - not to mention the lack of some of the country's top MBA programs - I doubt this is of much use for international students who want to end up working in the country.

Why do you guys think that Ivey isn't included in the ranking?

So... Queen's vs. Alberta? Queen's is the top school here and ranked as the highest in Businessweek. BUT it's tied with Alberta in the Financial Times ranking, which I understand is the gold standard.

Very different industries for those schools, so it depends on your goals. Try How to use LinkedIn to find the best school

A big part of Queen's vs. Alberta would be geography: like 80 percent of Alberta grads stay in Alberta, while a good majority of Queen's grads stay in Ontario (Toronto + Ottawa are big draws.)
What's interesting about Alberta is how diverse its placements tend to be: similar numbers go into energy, financial services, consulting, healthcare, government, manufacturing... Queen's grads tend to be focused on either financial services or consulting.

The list is at least strange. Where is Rotman? Sauder? Those are ranked B-schools. While Manitoba, which is in the list, I guess has even no accreditation. 6 schools in Canada are ranked in FT in 2015, that's useful
