I am currently preparing myself with applying for different MBA program for 2016 at different universities.

At the moment, my target B-schools are
1. HHL
2. WHU
3. Mannheim
4. EBS
5. Frankfurt School of Finance

Could you please the check whether the target schools are achievable with following profile ?
Also do let me know, if I missed other B-Schools.

Thanks for taking the time to come here. Just as a note of introduction, I studied at Tuck, then and perhaps now one of HHL's exchange schools, and I ended up with a certificate from HHL. I now organise the HHL group for Alumniportal Deutschland.

I have a handful of questions to start:
- For students of Asian origin, what are the job prospects after HHL? Where are they finding themselves most valued, and how do they prepare for the challenges of finding work?
- Which students will benefit most from the short course, and which ones from the long course?
- How valued is the international exchange?
- Which schools are sending the most people through to HHL, and how does HHL seem to differ from their schools?
- Is HHL all in this big new building? Is the old building still used? Why is the new building so.... so huge? Is HHL really big enough to fill that thing?

Please find below the answers

1. I don't think there is big difference between Asian students and other students. Close to 90% of the class are international students and almost all of them are in German level Beginner (A1/A2) or Intermediate level (b1). However, I see quite a lot of Asians going to start-ups. This may be mainly because many asians have a technological background. Also, HHL has close tie ups with many start-ups. HHL offers German language courses as a part of curriculum. If a student takes 21 month track, he has the opportunity to move from Beginner Level A1 to Advanced Level B2/C1. Also, students have longer time frame to search for jobs in the 21 month track. All these things helps the international students while searching for jobs.

2. If a student has high work experience and he has good german skills, he might benefit more from the short course. However, i prefer the longer course because
a. A student can do student consulting projects with companies. It helps us one have real understanding of the real world problems. You have a real "German project experience" on the resume
b. You can do internships ranging from 3 months to 6 months
c. More time to learn German.
I personally feel that all the three factors lot add of weight to the resume and you are not under time-pressure to search for a job in 21 month track.

3 &4. HHL get lot of students from international exchange. I have seen students from US, India (mainly IIMs), Canada , Australia and Norway. A few students also come from Poland,Romania and Kazakhstan. The exchange program adds further value to the class(HHL MBA class alone contains 17 different nationalities :) ) I have never asked the students about how their school differ from HHL. I may not be able to answer that question.

5. At the moment, the new building is shared both my Leipzig university and HHL. The new building has lot of study rooms so,that we don't run out of meeting rooms :) I do see that all the floors in the buildings are already reserved for various Chairs.

Hi! I am thinking of applying to HHL and I have some questions. Thanks for your help in advance!
Do you feel like there is a difference in the consulting projects given to MSc and MBA students? Can you give examples of the firms you get to work with for those projects?
How are the recruiting events? How helpful are career services in regards to getting students internships and/or interviews?
I am interested in pursuing a career in consulting, are there any consultant firms recruiting at HHL?
Finally, are there any student clubs or events about sports and other activities that are non academic related? we do have to have fun, right? :)

After the presentation, students can connect with them and learn more about the company,work environment,etc. I came here in September and till now, consulting firms such as Accenture consulting, Bain and Bain, ZS Associates, Arthur D. Little have done such presentations.
3. There are lot of student clubs in HHL. If you are a football file, HHL organizes European Ivy League, an event which is a mix of Foot ball and Business. There is a club called Accelerate which organizes week long event and invites prominent speakers. Some other clubs are Venture Capital Club, Energy Club, Business Students Without Borders. This year HHL students organized TEDxHHL.

2. Do we face any difficulty in getting internship without knowing German till B1 level or above ?
3.Though HHL is my priority but for backup I am appling to ESMT and Mannheim. The ESMT program is in January that's the only drawback. Are we allowed to come early and learn German if we get an admit ?

Duncan, I searched for all good B schools in Germany. I shortlisted HHL and EBS as they both have 18-21 months MBA program. Can you tell me other good schools in that region with longer duration MBA ?

Scroll to the top of the page and use the advanced search on the right. By that region, do you mean Germany? Really, only Esslingen and Pforzheim are also worth considering, and they are not as good as HHL.

Sorry I know I am bothering you but how are EBS and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management . Till now I didn't get a review on them . I have searched the forum .

I'm an entrepreneur and am running my own business in India currently. I plan to apply to the HHL MBA for the September 16 intake. Do you think this program is suitable for entrepreneurs or is mainly for candidates with a background in technology?

I think HHL is the best MBA in Germany for entrepreneurship.

ESMT might be worth looking at as well.

Will my GMAT score have to equal other Indian applicants even though they are more from a technical background, while I have an undergraduate degree in business. Consulting and entrepreneurship experience post that.

You'll still have to have a competitive GMAT score, regardless of your background. I think that ESMT and probably HHL would definitely appreciate your entrepreneurship experience, and this might compensate for a lower GMAT score to some extent, but that depends on a lot of things, like how long you've been working and the depth of your experience.

Certainly, they'd appreciate somebody who can demonstrate that he/she has spent years developing a business and making it successful.
